Level 2 Sustainability Qualified!
Over the last six weeks, I have been revising and completing a sustainability course! Here’s how it’s gone…
It was in May that I realised you can actually choose from a range of government-backed courses online. There are a few requirements, but prior to this, I was under the impression that after the age of 19, you would have to pay for any additional GCSEs or A-Levels. If you’re interested, take a look – I found mine on this website.
The course was entirely online and really easy to follow. I even had my own tutor, who was there for support every step of the way. The fact that it was a recognised qualification really appealed to me, as there are so many online "gurus" now that it’s hard to distinguish genuinely high-quality courses from those created by people like Bob down the road, mixing fact with fiction. I’m sure there are some excellent courses out there, but sifting through the bad ones doesn’t appeal to me.
How Much Work Is Involved in a Level 2 Sustainability Course
When I first started, both my partner and I were convinced that I could finish this six-week course in just two weeks. We even joked that before Christmas, I might be able to complete multiple courses! However, my overoptimistic enthusiasm was quickly humbled after my first assignment a week in. A Level 2 course is equivalent to a GCSE. When I was 16, I managed 15 GCSEs in one year, so I can see where my confusion came from.
All in all, I spent roughly eight hours per week revising and completing assignments. But to properly absorb the information, you need breathing room, which I hadn’t originally accounted for. Anyway, six weeks later, as the professionals predicted, I’m qualified!
What This Means for My Services
I’ve always wanted to work with brands that have a business ethos focused on helping people or the planet. But how could I specialise in this without understanding the terminology and key principles behind it?
One of the topics covered in the course was the difference between greenwashing and green marketing, and how the terminology used can have a huge positive or negative impact on a business’s reputation. This is something I’m now highly aware of and can easily identify when copywriting for both websites and social media.
